Biography
Born in Budapest,
Hungary, and raised in Tel Aviv, Israel and educated in South Africa, Australia, Ohio and New York, Sarit truly traveled the world before her career in painting began. When the time came, she bought old paintings
from thrift shops and covered over their canvases, boards and frames with her brightly colored paints. From the outset, she was totally and exuberantly absorbed in her work, refusing to look at the work of her
contemporaries or be diverted from exclusively expressing her own unique viewpoint.
The result evokes
flashes of a light-hearted Botero and occasionally Alice Neel, although she'd never really heard of either artist before her first show and the inevitable comparisons began. By the time she'd completed and
shown more than 60 of her works, dealers and collectors and the press were all beginning to refer to "a joy-filled Botero" in the way she expressed the figures in her paintings.
Her newest works show an even greater sense of optimism and an ethereal serenity. Sarit holds an unwavering conviction that "beauty comes in all forms". She explains further "I seek to
portray the purity of the human spirit, which in turn, endows unconventional looks with great beauty."
Her women in particular are not conventionally built--they may
be fat or oddly-shaped--but they exude beauty and happily celebrate themselves on the canvas.
Following an exhilarating review of the exhibit on Canadian
television evening news, the CBC reporter exclaimed "Sarit is truly an original". |
